Make a Snowman   Printable PDF
Players needed:  One to several children along with a supervising adult.

Materials Needed:
Snowy day
Warmly dressed children (mittens/gloves are a must)
Darkly shaded rocks or coal to serve as Snowman’s eyes, coat buttons, and smile
Camera (optional)
1 Large carrot
Any old clothing accessories such as a hat, gloves or scarf that children wish to dress Snowman up in.

Steps:
-  Advise children to take a handful snow that they can begin shaping into a ball.
-  Children should continue adding and packing on additional snow until ball is too large to hold in one hand.
-  Children should then place the ball in front of them and take turns rolling the ball on the snowy ground acquiring additional layers of snow.
-  Advise children to continue packing these newer layers of snow on with their hands to ensure snow is as solidly packed as possible.
-  Continue steps 3 & 4 until ball is desired size for snowman’s base.
-  Repeat steps 1-5 for two more ball layers that will act as the snowman’s mid section and head.  The second ball should be somewhat smaller then than the base snowball and last snowball should be the smallest of the three.
-  If needed, help children stack each ball in size order on top of the base snowball.  Advise children to further secure balls by adding handfuls of snow around the seams where each of the layers meet.  They can simply pack these handfuls in with their hands.
-  Children can then begin to dress and decorate the snowman by adding long sticks where his arms will be (old gloves or mittens can be placed on ends of these sticks).  Rocks where his eyes, “coat” buttons, and smile will be.  A carrot sticking pointy end out for his nose and any other various accessories (such as old hats or scarves that children wish to give the Snowman.
-  Don’t forget to take a snapshot of the child(ren) with their new frosty friend!
